2 <br /> <br />Joyce replied, "Yes. Surveys went to all facilities around the State, including volume <br />caps and economic issues. My opinion is that they'll take the information and present <br />raw data to the DEQ, but i'm not sure if the Corps or DEQ will do ranking." Council <br />Member Haskell asked, "By Session [General Assembly] in January, do you expect <br />ranking order?." Mr. Joyce replied, "Yes, officially or not." City Manager Reynolds <br />stated, "A lot of what the Corps is asking for, the DEQ already has." -Council Member <br />Haskell added, "It would be prudent to collect additional data." Mr. Joyce stated, <br />"You've been proactive." Vice Mayor Teague asked, "Is their strategy to handle <br />closures administratively rather than legislatively?" Mr. Joyce replied, "1 don't know if <br />that's their strategy or not. I don't think that new laws or regulations are needed to get <br />the job done. They'll be looking at the life of the site to rank. You ought to be thinking <br />about a window of three to five years for closure, possibly July 1, 2002, or July 1, 2003. <br />That's only my speculation, though." Mayor Crabtree asked, "Across the State, will <br />landfill closure be as of a political interest as last year?" Mr. Joyce replied, "It has the <br />potential of getting back up to prominence. Congress will be looking at a similar issue, <br />interstate transport of trash." Council Member Haskell added, "Northern Virginia is <br />concerned about the barge ban." Mayor Crabtree asked, "Economically speaking, how <br /> <br />are pdvate landfills fairing?' <br />private and public, are doing <br /> <br />Mr. Joyce replied, "The large, regional facilities, both <br />okay." Council Member Haskell asked, "Are waste <br /> <br />companies lobbying to close unlined landfills?" <br />closure, but they're not the biggest lobbyist." <br />the biggest lobbyist.'?"
