TUESDAY, MAY 11, 1999 <br />Vote: 5-0 <br /> <br />Yeas: (5) Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague. <br />Nays: (0) None. <br /> <br /> Council next considered authorizing the City Treasurer to refund $3,456 to Leasetex Corporation <br />for an erroneous assessment on 1998 Business Personal Property taxes by the Office of the Commissioner <br />of the Revenue. Mr. Ronnie Minter, City Treasurer, was present to explain the need for this action, and <br />the legal process by which the refund would be made. Council then acted to approve the refunding by the <br />following vote, all members voting: <br />Vote: 5-0 <br /> <br />Yeas: (5) Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague. <br /> <br />Nays: (0) None <br /> <br /> Council next considered adoption of the School's budget request for Fiscal Year 1999-2000. Mr. <br />Reynolds stated his recommendation of a contribution from the City's General Fund of $7,872,174 which <br />would include $140,000 for a 2.95% average pay increase for school employees, the same as other City <br />employees. He noted that the total contribution recommended for the schools was $8,846,552, inclusive <br />of Meals Tax Funds. Mr. Reynolds reminded Council of the School Superintendents budget request <br />made one week earlier, noting that it had been $200,000 greater than what was being recommended. <br />Council Member Haskell asked whether any emergency needs or mandates from the schools capital list <br />that would go unmet for lack of the additional $200,000. Mr. Reynolds stated that there were none of <br />which he was aware. Vice Mayor Teague stated that he felt it appropriate to adopt the budget at this <br />time, but would like to discuss the capital and technology needs of the schools at later date. Council <br />Member Haskell asked if that would meet the legal requirements of the school budget adoption process, <br />and Mr. Reynolds informed her that it would, since all issues regarding operating funds and teachers <br /> <br /> <br />
