City Manager Earl Reynolds noted that Council's vote on the setting of these
priorities was an annual process, the results of which would be conveyed to the Virginia Department of
Transportation at their upcoming public hearings in Salem, Virginia. Mr. Reynolds stated that the
priorities shown were the same as those stated in the previous several years, but pointed out the need to
re-emphasize Council' s complete scope of work for the priority regarding the improvements needed at the
intersection of Clearview Drive and Liberty Street. Discussion then occurred on how to best inform
Virginia Department of Transportation officials of Council's full intent on this priority. It was agreed that
VDOT officials would be provided documentation from the West Piedmont Planning District on the
original resolution regarding the Liberty/Clearview project. Mr. Lafayette Jones asked if Priority Number
Two on the list would continue to be the improvements planned for Fayette Street, and was told that this
priority would continue in its present status. Ms. Gloria Hylton asked if a connector road to Koute 57,
running behind the Wal-Mart facility on Memorial Boulevard, which had been discussed in previous
years, was still under consideration. She was informed that although it was considered a worthwhile
project it would have to be pfiofitized by Henry County, since it was outside the City. Ms. Hylton stated
that she had additional information that would reinforce the need for this connector, and Council Member
Haskell stated that staff should receive this information from Ms. Hylton. Mr. Reynolds stated that he
would do so. Council then adopted the City's Annual Regional Highway Transportation Projects List for
