TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 1989 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, February 28, <br />1989, in the CouncilChamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of <br />the Council were present, viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Willjams, <br />Vice-Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr.; Alfred T. Groden; and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />After the invocation and the extending by Mayor Oakes of a cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, a group of some twenty Martinsville High School students, <br />accompanied by faculty members Mrs. Ann B. Gardner and Mr.~ James McGinnis, <br />presented a selection from the "New 50's Rock'n Roll" musical GREASE which will <br />be presented to the public by a cast of seventy-five MHS students on March 10th <br />and March llth (1989). Council complimented these students on their <br />well-performed preview selection and wished them well in the forthcoming <br />production. <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved the minutes, as recorded, of its regular meeting <br />held February 14, 1989. <br /> <br />City Manager Brown introduced to Council andto the public Mr. Kevin B. Reed, <br />whom Mr. Brown has appointed to the position of City Planner/Zoning <br />Administrator, effective March 13, 1989, to succeed Mr. Dennis W. Carney, who <br />recently resigned from that position to become the County Planner for King <br />William County(Virginia). <br /> <br />Council instructed its Clerk to write a letter to Sergeant Thomas J. Slaughter, <br />of the City's Police Dep~rtment, expressing Council's recognition and <br />commendation of Sergeant Slaughter for his responding to a need for <br /> <br /> <br />
