TUESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1988 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on December 3, 1988, the football team of Martinsville <br />High School (the "Bulldogs") won the State Group AA, Division 3 <br />Championship for 1988; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Bulldogs team from Martinsville High School in the <br />past four years has won four District titles, four Regional titles <br />(final four teams), and competed for the State title the last two <br />years; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Bulldogs have won more games over the past four years <br />than any other AA team in the State, with a combined record of <br />47-7; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the support, attitude, and sportsmanship displayed by the <br />team players, students, band members, and the community is <br />commendable and something for which all of us can be proud; now, <br />therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT P~SOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session assembled December 13, 1988, that we <br />do hereby proudly recognize the MARTINSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL "BULLDOGS" <br />FOOTBALL TEAM upon winning the 1988 Virginia State Group AA <br />Championship; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we do further recognize and <br />congratulate this team's coaching staff, especially Coach Taylor <br />Edwards for his outstanding guidance and leadership during his <br />coaching Career of seven years in the Martinsville City School <br />System as Head Football Coach; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we do hereby request that a copy of <br />this Resolution be presented to COach Edwards, his staff, and each <br />member of his 1988 football team. <br /> <br />Congratulations BULLDOGS! <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved the minutes--as recorded--of its special meeting <br />held November 28, 1988, and of its regular meeting held November 29, 1988. <br /> <br />Some of the Virginia Municipal League's 1989 legislative proposals discussed <br />with State Senator Goode and State Delegate Reynolds involved annexation and/or <br />interlocal cooperation and relations, funding for constitutional officers and <br />for education and social services and for housing and for regional criminal <br /> <br /> <br />
