TUESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1988 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, on December 3, 1988, the football team of Martinsville High School (the "Bulldogs") won the State Group AA, Division 3 Championship for 1988; and WHEREAS, the Bulldogs team from Martinsville High School in the past four years has won four District titles, four Regional titles (final four teams), and competed for the State title the last two years; and WHEREAS, the Bulldogs have won more games over the past four years than any other AA team in the State, with a combined record of 47-7; and WHEREAS, the support, attitude, and sportsmanship displayed by the team players, students, band members, and the community is commendable and something for which all of us can be proud; now, therefore, BE IT P~SOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session assembled December 13, 1988, that we do hereby proudly recognize the MARTINSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL "BULLDOGS" FOOTBALL TEAM upon winning the 1988 Virginia State Group AA Championship; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we do further recognize and congratulate this team's coaching staff, especially Coach Taylor Edwards for his outstanding guidance and leadership during his coaching Career of seven years in the Martinsville City School System as Head Football Coach; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we do hereby request that a copy of this Resolution be presented to COach Edwards, his staff, and each member of his 1988 football team. Congratulations BULLDOGS! Council unanimously approved the minutes--as recorded--of its special meeting held November 28, 1988, and of its regular meeting held November 29, 1988.
