TUESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1988 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, December 13, <br />1988, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of <br />Council were present, viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Willjams,' Vice-Mayor; <br />William C. Cole, Jr.; Alfred T. Groden; and Allan McClain. At the invitation <br />extended by City Council, among visitors present were The Honorable Virgil H. <br />Goode, Jr., State Senator, and The Honorable William Roscoe Reynolds, State <br />Delegate, to hear Council's views on the Virginia Municipal League's proposed <br />1989 Legislative Program for the 1989 General Assembly Session; Mr. WorthH. <br />Carter, Jr., Chairman of the City School Board, and members of the school <br />system's administrative staff; and Planning Commission Chairman James H. Ford, <br />and Commission members George B. Adams, Jr., George C. Cox, and Earle W. <br /> <br />Greene. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome extended to visitors <br />present, Council recognized--and presented a token of its appreciation to--Mr. <br />Clay J. Davis, who retired as Assistant Fire Chief, effective November 30, <br />1988, for his service as a member of the City's Fire Department since September <br />30, 1948. <br /> <br />Council also recognized Mr. Taylor Edwards, Coach of the Martinsville Senior <br />High School's football team, and, through the following resolution duly <br />adopted, congratulated and commended Mr. Edwards, his coaching staff, and the <br />football team upon recently winning the 1988 State Championship among Group <br />AA-Division 3 high schools in Virginia: <br /> <br /> <br />
