TUESDAY, JULY 26, 1988

special committee (viz., Messrs. Earle W. Greene, Ralph C. Lester, Bill A.
Adkins, and Thomas J. Burch) were present at this meeting and offered comments
-on various facets of the report. Some of the committee's recommendations urged
a re-examination by the City of its subdivision standards or requirements, the
administering of the City's Subdivision Ordinance by the City staff (rather
than, currently, by the Planning Commission), the adoption of a revised Zoning
Ordinance being developed by the Planning Commission, continued rehabilitation
of older neighborhoods, assistance by business and industry to their employees
through incentives and "shared equity" programs, a re-examination of "City/
County consolidation" with eventual merger as a goal, and (as an option to
consolidation which the committee deemed preferable) efforts to obtain changes
in current annexation statutes which, in effect, currently give Henry County
immunity from "involuntary annexation" or, in other words, which presently
prohibit annexation procedures being initiated by the City. Meanwhile, the
committee indicated that it will be gladJ to review any proposed ordinance which
might result from--or relate to--this special study report and its recommenda-
tions.

Council acknowledged receipt of the following Staff reports:

Results of the "Red Cross" bloodmobile on June 10, 1988,
sponsored by the City and coordinated by Mr. James W. Hopkins,
Assistant Director of Public Works -- against a quota of fifty
units, fifty employees offered (of whom three were deferred),
with forty-seven units being collected;

Status of condemned residential property at 204 Park Street,
owned by Mr. Edward Do Hunt, as set forth by City Manager
Brown in his July 14th letter to Mr. & Mrs. Bobby J. Pinkard,
of 208 Park Street, who appeared before Council at Council's
July 12th meeting with regard to this condemned property;
