TUESDAY, JULY 12, 1988 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, July 12, 1988, in <br />the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members Of Council <br />were present, viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Willjams, Vice-Mayor; William <br />C. Cole, Jr.; Alfred T. Groden; and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome to visitors present, Mr. <br />Oakes and City Manager Brown, on behalf of the Council and the City, recognized <br />Mrs. Linda P. Moore, who retired as of June 30, 1988, for her thirty years' <br />service to the Cityas an employee of the Finance Department's Utility Billing <br />Division and, also, presented a token of appreciation to Mrs. Moore. <br /> <br />After noting the need to correct an omission in Item A(1) on page 276 of the <br />minutes of Council's regular meeting held June 28, 1988, Council unanimously <br />approved said minutes as well as the minutes of its special (organizational) <br />meeting held July 1, 1988. <br /> <br />Mr. William Woolf, Manager of the Martinsville cablevision division of Adelphia <br />Communications Corporation (holder of the local cablevision franchise), <br />accompanied by Mr. James Rig~ (Adelphia's operations vice-president) and Mr. <br />John Shoemaker (local engineer), appeared before Council and described various <br />procedures and equipment (now in operation at the Martinsville division) <br />designed to improve customer service and customer relations. Mro Woolf noted, <br />for example, that of the 12,580 calls received during a recent five-week period <br /> <br /> <br />
