TUESDAY, MAY 24, 1988 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, May 24, 1988, in <br />the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of the <br />Council were present, viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Williams, Vice~ayor; <br />William C. Cole, Jr.; Alfred T. Groden; and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />Following the invocation and Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome extended to visitors <br />present, Council unanimously approved the minutes of its special meeting held <br />May 3, 1988, and of its regular meeting held May 10, 1988. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-published notice, Council conducted a public hearing on a <br /> <br />petition recently filed by Broad Street Christian Church seeking the closing <br /> <br />and abandonment of an alleyway situated perpendicular to Market Street, between <br />Broad and College Streets. There being no objections registered by any citizen <br /> <br />to this petition, Mayor Oakes declared this public hearing closed; whereupon <br /> <br />motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council accepted the Planning <br /> <br />Commission's recommendation that Council grant the request and, in so doing, <br /> <br />Council unanimously adopted the following ordinance directing the vacating and <br /> <br />closing of said alleyway: <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> in regular meeting assembled this twenty-fourth day of May, 1988, <br /> that the following-described alleyway be--and is hereby declared-- <br />· vacated and abandoned, s~bject to compliance with conditions here- <br />inafter set forth: <br /> <br />ALLEYWAY DESCRIPTION <br /> Ten feet in width and approximately eighty feet in <br /> length, situated between Lots Nos. 8 and 9 and Lots Nos. <br /> 7 and 10, as shown on page 32, Section K, of the Tax Map <br /> of the City of Martinsville; also situated perpendicular <br /> to the north side of Market Street, between Broad and <br /> College Streets. <br /> <br /> <br />
