TUESDAY, MAY 10, 1988 <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, and the Martinsville City School Board that the <br />Governor of Virginia, through his good offices, be requested to <br />initiate action that will correct the inequities we believe are <br />prevalent in the enacted State Budget for the 1988-90 biennium; <br />and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a special investigation and <br />evaluation be made in the status of our index for the 1988-90 <br />biennium in the light of the known distortions whereat in the <br />compilation of our AGI, with corrective actions taken in the <br />allocation of State funds to Martinsville; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the problem preventing Martinsville <br />and other affected communities from annexing and exercising <br />"sound management decisions" receive appropriate consideration in <br />funding. <br /> <br />With the endorsement of the Martinsville Transportation Safety Commission, <br /> <br />Council unanimously authorized the filing of the following two grant <br /> <br />applications with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles: <br /> <br />For the sum of $9,600.00, with in-kind match by the City of <br />a like sum, for a Selective DUI Enforcement Program designed <br />to improve traffic safety by attempting to reduce alcohol- <br />related motor vehicle accidents; and <br /> <br />For the sum of $1,273.00, with in-kind match by City of like <br />amount, to enable the City's police officers to collect <br />evidence which should result in an increase in the conviction <br />rate of vehicle operators who are involved in crashes result- <br />ing from excessive speed. This program is identified as <br />"Digital/Electronic Drag Sleds and Tire Pads". <br /> <br />On behalf of Harris-Teeter SuperMarkets and/or the Whittle Family Irrevocable <br />Trust, Mr. L. Dale McGhee, Attorney at Law and Counsel for petitioner(s), <br />appeared before Council with the request that Council consent to vacation of a <br />subdivision plat involving property on the north side of Brookdale Street which <br />is under contract for sale by the Whittle Family Trust to Harris-Teeter, <br />including an unopened sixty-foot street space, being that property rezoned by <br />Council to C-1 Commercial by action February 9, 1988.
