Council agreed, meanwhile, to exert efforts, <br />along with the City School Bo. ard and other interested persons, toward obtaining <br />more State funding for local education and social services; whereas, Mayor <br />Oakes cited the need, in his opinion, to consider expanding the-City's (GEneral <br />Fund) revenue base. <br /> <br /> i <br />Pursuant to the requirements of subsection (a)(1) of Section 2.1-344 of the <br /> <br />CODEOF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and upon motion, duly seconded and <br />unanimously carried by a recorded vote, Council convened into an Executive <br />Session for the purpose of considering salaries for 1988-89 of certain <br />officials who are not subject to the City's pay plan. At the conclusion of <br />this session, Council reconvened into regular session where, upon motions, duly <br />seconded and unanimously carried, Council directed that compensation of the <br />City Attorney be increased (in '1988-89) over the current year by six per centum <br />(6%), effective July 1, 1988, and that the annual salary of the City Manager be <br />increased effective July 1, 1988, by $4,500 (from the present annual rate of <br />$55,000 to a 1988-89 rate of $59,500). <br /> <br />Council indicated that at its forthcoming May 10th regular meeting it will set <br />a date for a duly-advertised public hearing to be conducted on the proposed <br />1988-89 City Budget, as heretofore amended. <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes then declared this meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />H~.~Ye'~n,C~~erk of Council <br /> <br /> <br />
