! 86 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, MARCH 8, 1988 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor Lo D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, March 8, 1988, in <br />the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. With the exception of <br />Vice-Mayor Clyde L. Willjams, who was away from the City, all members were <br />present, viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr.; Alfred T. Groden; and <br />Allan McClatn. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Mayor Oakes extended a cordial welcome to visitors <br />present, among whom was the eighth grade class of gifted-and talented students <br />from Martinsvtlle Junior High School (Mrs. Carolyn Turner, Coordinator), whose <br />spokesman was Jay Alston, a member of this group. <br /> <br />Through Mayor Oakes and City Manager George W. Brown, Council presented to <br />recently-retired Fire Chief John Lloyd Gregory a check in token of appreciation <br />of Mr. Gregory's long and faithful service to the City. <br /> <br />City Manager Brown presented--and introduced--to Council Mr. Steven L. Routh, <br />currently Town Manager of Madison, North Carolina, whom Mro Brown recently <br />appointed as Assistant to the City Manager (of Martinsville), effective March <br />28, 1988. <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation that the <br />City's Land Use Plan be amended to the extent that properties fronting the north <br />side of East Church Street between Oakdale Street and Fairy Street be designated <br />for professional usage (thus, to replace that sectlongs present "Low Density <br /> <br /> <br />
