TUESDAY, JANUARY 26, 1988 <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, <br />this ordinance shall be in force on and after January 27, 1988. <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendations on the <br /> <br />following two petitions, COuncil unanimously directed that Council conduct <br /> <br />duly-advertised public hearings thereon at its forthcoming February 9th regular <br /> <br />meeting: <br /> <br />A petition filed by Dorn-Will Corporation seeking the abandonment <br />of an un-used right-of-way within petittoner's property situated <br />on the south side of East Church Street and east of Salmon <br />Street, near the City's east corporate limits, at which site <br />petitioner proposes to construct and operate a nursing home <br />facility; and <br /> <br />A petition filed by Harris-Teeter Super Markets, Inc.., <br />(represented by Mr. L. Dale McGhee, Attorney-At-Law), seeking <br />the rezontng from R-9 Residential to C-1 Commercial of portions <br />of Lots Nos. 2 and 27 situated on the northeast side of Brookdale <br />Street, near its intersection with Spruce Street. <br /> <br />Pursuant to Council's request from its recent January 12th regular meeting, Mr. <br />William Woolf, Manager of Adelphia Communications Corporation's Martinsville <br />(formerly Mutli-Channel) cablevision system, appeared before Council in connection <br />with recent complaints filed with members of Council by this cablevision system's <br />customers, particularly complaints of poor customer relations and against rate <br />increases effected by the company as of January I, 1988. As to the complaints <br />against the rate increases, Council explained that, with recent Federal <br />deregulation of the cablevision industry, it no longer has any control or <br />authority over basic rates charged users in the City; nevertheless, Council <br />indicated that it would have much preferred to have been given advance notice of <br />the recent rate increases'and that it would hope that the local cablevision <br />company will inform Council in advance of future rate increases or of other <br /> <br /> <br />
