TUESDAY, JANUARY 26, 1988 <br /> <br />Betty D. Brown, who isVice-Regent of the Patrick Henry Chapter of the DAR, who <br />(with Mrs. Tudor as spokes-person) presented a sealed scroll, containing the <br />signatures of some 700 area'citizens, as an adjunct to the 1987 celebration of <br />the Two Hundredth Anniversary of the United States Constitution sponsored in <br />Martinsvilleland Henry County by these two DAR Chapters, which scroll is to be <br />placed in the office of the Clerk of Henry County Circuit Court for <br />preservation, and not to be unsealed until the year 2037. Council commended <br />these representatives and their chapters for their sponsorship.of the <br />bicentennial, which was observed with daily programs and events~during the week <br />of September 17th-23rd, 1987o <br /> <br />In response to Council's invitation (from its January 12th meeting), most of the <br />members of the Martinsville Planning Commission appeared before Council and <br />discussed matters pertaining to the City's Land Use Plan, as it currently <br />applies to the sectionof East Church Street from Church Street Extension to <br />Booker Road (and/or to Fairy Street), and related matters pertaining to the <br />recent property rezoning petition filed by Miss Jane English for her properties <br />at 502-514 East Church Street. Members of the Commission also explained their <br />positions as recently taken when voting on what recommendations the Commission <br />should present to Council, particularly on the rezoning petition in which (by a <br />majority vote) the Commission reversed itself. Some of the supporting reasons <br />given by some of the Commission members were previously set forth in the <br />Commission's written reports and recommendations. Entering into this subject <br />matter was the question of whether to propose revising the City's Land Use Plan <br />for both sides of the East Church Street section to designate other than its <br /> <br /> <br />
