WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 6, 1988 <br /> <br />A special and duly-convened meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, was held Wednesday, January 6, 1988, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br />beginning at 7:30 P.M., for the purposes of considering and acting upon the <br />following matters of business, as set 'forth in an advance agenda: <br /> <br /> I. A proposed ordinance (No. 88-1) to establish annual compensation <br /> of the Mayor and other members of Council, pursuant to--and as <br /> authorized by--Section 14.1-47.2 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, <br /> and as amended), which section over-rides Section 6 of Chapter 2 <br /> of the City's Charter; <br /> <br /> II. The City's current procedures and policy governing usage and/or <br /> disposition of "excess" fund balances; and <br /> <br /> III. The status of the City's Overall Economic Development Plan. <br /> <br />All members of Council were present for this meeting, viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor and <br />Presiding Officer; Clyde L. Williams, Vice-Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr.; Alfred T. <br />Groden; and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome to persons present, the <br />purposes of this special meeting, as stated in the foregoing, were announced by <br />Mayor Oakes. <br /> <br />Council then considered proposed Ordinance No. 88-1 which, if adopted, would <br />increase the annual compensation of the Mayor from the present Charter ceiling <br />$2,400.00 (i.e., $80.00 per meeting attended for a maximum of thirty paid meetings <br />per year) to $4,800.00 (i.e., $160.00 per meeting attended for a maximum of thirty <br />paid meetings per year) and would increase the annual compensation of other <br />members of Council from the present Charter ceiling of $2,400.00 (ie., $80.00 per <br />meeting attended for a maximum of thirty paid meetings per year) to $4,200.00 <br /> <br /> <br />
