476 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1990 <br /> <br /> in a recent Martinsvitle Bulletin Editorial and in the Rating Guide <br /> -tO Lifein America's Small Cities by G. Scott Thomas. Mr. Brown <br /> reviewed a report which had been provided to Council on this is!sue, <br /> and which is attached to these minutes as Appendix B. Following <br /> Mr. Brown's report, Councilman Oakes requested that a copy of the <br /> report be provided to groupsin the City which are involved in <br /> planning, such as the Economic Development CorporationandPlanning <br /> Commission. 'Councilman Oakes recommended that the City be <br /> <br />continually planning for the future, especially'for the next five <br />years.' Several members of Council complimented Mr. Brown on his <br />report <br /> <br /> At this point, Mro Brown announced that the joint meeting between <br /> City COuncil and the School Board had been scheduled for November <br /> <br />~I20~=at 11:00 A.M. ' ' ~ <br /> <br /> CounCil considered approval of purchase of computer equipment for <br />=the =City. Mr.. BrownI recommended. that the word processing and <br /> central·Iprocessing unit needs be met in stages .as follows: Phase <br /> 1 - During the current year~ upgrade the word processing system in <br /> the Administrative offices by replacing the existing eight <br /> · terminals with eight new Professional Computers (PCs) t including <br /> related equipment. This would not require the replacement of the <br /> printers and is estimated to cost $18,350, which could be paid for <br /> from the $50,000 appropriation for computer equipment in the FY90- <br /> 91Budge~."Phase 2 - During FY91-92, replace the current WANG VS85 <br /> <br /> <br />
