TUESDAY, AUGUST:14. 1990 <br />'processed. This calculation includes the operational and <br />development costs for the new landfill and='closure costs~for the <br />new landfill. In addition to these costs, there would be an <br />additional cost of approximately $10 per tonto'fund closure and <br />post closure costs of the existing landfills. ~ <br /> <br />In.response to a question by Councilman Adams, Mr. Joyce explained <br />that the projections were based on construction of the new landfill <br />as an ongoing development. The entire site would not be developed <br />initially. However, it is recommended that the land for the entire <br />~ite be purchased initially. In response to a question by <br />Councilman Oakes, it was noted that Patrick County had a=potential <br />tonnage of approximately 40-45 tons per day. <br /> <br />In response"to a question by Mayor McClain, Mr. Joyce confirmed <br />that the basic result of the calculations was that the more tonnage <br />collected through joint operations, the lower the cost per ton. <br />Therefore the'cost per day of each locality's share of the joint <br />project would be lower than the cost per day'=of each locality <br />operating alone." <br /> <br />Mr. Joyce briefly reviewed the alternatives to total landfilling <br />which were examined in the study. Mr. Joyce noted that the request <br />for prOposals which was'issued by the City and County! was broad <br />enough'~o~allow~for different alternatives tobeexplored. The <br /> <br /> <br />
