TUESDAY, AUGUST 14, 1990 <br />report presented to the Board of Supervisors and City Council in <br />March. C..ILee Lintecum statedthat the solid waste issue is one of <br />pollution control. Mr. Lintecum said that he was encouraged by the <br />interest which has been expressed in the waste to energy <br />alternative. <br /> <br />r <br /> <br />Mr._ Butch Joyce then began a review of the revised report. Mr. <br />Joyce reviewed the purpose of the study which was to:' 1) evaluate <br />the existing conditions in both the City and County; 2) evaluate <br />the~feasibility of a joint solution to the solid waste problem; 3) <br /> <br />evaluate alternatives to landfilling; and 4): develop <br />recommendations and a plan of action. . ~ <br /> <br />In evaluating existing conditions, the consultants reviewed: 1) <br />waste quantity; 2)...waste composition; and 3) theconditions of the <br /> <br />landfills. <br /> <br />,~In response to a question, Mr. <br /> <br />Joyce stated that the City and <br /> <br />County were on schedule to meet the State-imposed deadlines, <br />providing that the two.governing bodies take immediate action on a <br />portion of the recommendations. In response to. a question by <br />Councilman Adams, Mr. Joyce stated that very few landfills,in the <br />State meet the 1992 standards. In response toa follow-upquestion <br />by Councilman Adams, Mr. Joyce said that he doubted if the <br />Department of Waste Management had the manpower to~review all of <br /> <br /> <br />
