TUESDAY. JULY24. 1990 <br /> <br />Councilman Willjams expressed concerns about· the penalties for <br />unlawfully carrying concealed weapons as they relate to the rate <br />of crimes involving firearms. City Attorney Worthy said that <br />penalties for this offense already exist and that action by the <br />General Assembly would be needed in order to change them. <br /> <br />Councilman Oakes, referring to a letter from Governor Wilder which <br />indicated that the State may consider cutting aid to localities, <br />asked Mayor McClain to write a letter to the Governor in opposition <br />to reduced aid for localities. Council agreed to this request. <br /> <br />CouncilmanOakes asked permission to attend the National League of <br />Citie~ annual conference in Houston from December 1-5. Council <br />agreed to this request, <br /> <br />Councilman Adams reported that he planned to attend·the Virginia <br />Municipal League training session from August 1-3 in Richmond. <br /> <br />In accordance with Section 2.1-344(A) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA <br />(1950, and as amended), and upon motion, duly seconded and carried <br />by a unanimous r~corded vote, Council convened into Executive <br />Session for the purpose of discussing a personnel matter, as <br />authorized by Subsection 1 of Section 2.1-344(A).
