TUESDAY, JULY 24, 1990 <br /> <br /> =. No person shall shoot any air gun, gravel shooter, <br /> slingshot or any other type of missile-throwing device, <br />· .-which is capable of doing injuryto persons or property, <br /> at any place within the city. A violation of this <br /> section shall constitute a Class I misdemeanor. This <br /> section shall not apply to the following: <br /> <br />....(.1) Any ROTC student who is required to <br /> shoot an air gun or pellet gun as part of his <br /> training; providing this is done in the <br /> presence of, and under the supervision of, the <br /> ROTC instructor and/or his assistant at a site <br /> designated for this purpose by said instructor <br /> and approved by the chief of police. <br /> <br /> ..... (2)~ Any person who shoots any missile- <br />throwing device, such as an air gun, pellet <br />gun, or archery equipment in. the presence of <br />and under the supervision of the operator, <br />owner or designee of a facility designed for <br />such use and approved by the chief of police. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that, an emergency existing, this <br />.ordinance shall be effective upon adoption. <br /> <br />Council considered a request made to Vice-Mayor Groden by a number <br />of Correctional officers of the City PrisOn Farm to extend the <br />Ci~y's early retirement to Prison Farmpersonnel as now being given <br />Police and Fire personnel. Mr. Brown explained that the early <br />retirement! benefits given to POlice Officers and full-time <br />Firefighters came about through action of the General Assembly as <br />set forth in Section 51.1-138 of the State Code. Mr. Brown <br /> <br />explained that neither State Correctional Officers nor,.local Prison <br />Farm personnel are eligible for the early..retirement opportunities <br />provided for State Police, Sheriffs, local law enforcement and fire <br /> <br />personnel. Mr. Brown said that the Correctional Officers' role as <br /> <br />a Sworn Officer as Conservator of the Peace is different from that <br /> <br />of .general law enforcement as required by police officers in that <br /> <br /> <br />
