TUESDAY, JUNE~2'6. 1990 <br /> <br />(apprOved, at the April 10, 1990 Council meeting) had been approved <br />by the State. In response to a question by Councilman Groden, Mr. <br />Bill. Lester,~ Director of Facilities. for the -School System, <br />explained that the asbestos abatement at the Junior High School is <br /> <br />a mandatory. project. Upon motion, duly seconded, and by unanimous <br />vote, Council approved the following resolution: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, at a meeting of the City Council for the City <br />of Martinsville, Virginia, held in said City on the 26th <br />day of June, 1990; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the School Board for the City of Martinsville <br />presented to this Council an application addressed~tothe <br />State Board of Education of Virginia for the purpose of <br />borrowing from the Literary Fund $253,306 for the purpose <br />of asbestos abatement, 30 Cleveland Avenue, to be paid <br />in 20 annual installments, and the interest thereon at <br />3 per cent paid annually; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED that the application of the City School <br />Board to the State Board of Education of Virginia for a <br />loan of $253,306 from the Literary 'Fund_ is hereby <br />approved, and authority is hereby granted the said City <br />School Board to borrow the amount for the purpose set <br />out in said application; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville will each year during the life of this loan, <br />at the time they fix the regular levies, fix a rate of <br />levy 'for schools or make a cash appropriation sufficient <br />for operation expenses and to pay this loan in annual <br />installments and the interest thereon, as'required by law <br />regulating loans from the Literary Fund.-. ~=!. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council approved <br />the following resolution supporting House Biilv 751, "State Payments <br />for State Mandates Act": <br /> <br />WHEREAS, cities and counties in Virginia are subjectto <br />increasing mandates and regulations imposed by the <br />Commonwealth; and ~.~ . .~.. ~.~.,.~,. <br /> <br /> <br />
