Mayor Oakes asked Mr. Brown to draft a letter <br /> <br />for the Mayor's signature summarizing the City's position and to <br />send a copy of the solid waste study to Patrick County.' Mayor <br /> <br />Oakes also asked Mr. Brown to set up a meeting between the Patrick <br /> <br />County Administrator and Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, the <br />Henry County Administrator and Chairman of the Board of <br /> <br />Supervisors, and the City Manager and Mayor of Martinsville in <br /> <br /> order to discuss the solid waste and regional jail issues. In <br /> response to a question by Mayor Oakes, Mr. Brown stated that <br /> Patrick County did not express interest in a regional landfill when <br /> <br /> the solid waste study was initiated. Since that time, however, <br />,'-many=' communities are realizing that the cost~s for landfill <br /> <br /> constrUction under the new regulations 'are substantial enough to <br /> justifylong hauling distances. <br /> <br />'Council took no action on a request by the Martinsvilie-Henry <br />County EconOmic Development Corporation regarding clean air <br /> <br />=legislation because the legislation had already passed the <br /> <br />Congress., Councilman Cole expressed his support for clean air in <br /> <br />Martinsville. <br /> <br /> Upon motion, duly seconded, and by unanimous vote, Council approved <br />-~the Annual Report of the Overall Economic Development Program Plan <br /> <br /> forthecity of Martinsville. The Mayor and Council·commended the <br /> <br /> <br />
