The general distribution of calls was found

to. be proportional to the population of the ~individuat Census

Tracts.

~! =.Reviewing a chart which showed the frequency~ of-the occurrence of

moresthan 2 calls at one time, Mr. Hunter stated that 3 calls was

very common,.4 calls was common, and 5 calls was rare, but occurred

_enoUgh.topresent asignificant problem.~ .... ~.~ ,, - -,~

With regard,to training, Mr. Hunter said~,that. there were less

volunteers in the more advanced levels of training than are needed

to.provide a=124 hour per day service.- Currently there'are 39

~persons who~have training in excess of the ~basicEMT level. In

order to provide a 24 hour per day service, the area would need 76

volunteers who have this level of training.

Mr. Hunter? thenbeganexploring the reasons behind.the difficulty

in recruiting volunteers for the rescue squads. Demographic

factors, such as an overall reduction in persons aged 18 to 24 have

a major,=impacto~ Also cited as a major influence was the time

· commitmentsrequired by volunteers of the rescue~,squads, which was

estimated to be from.17-18 hours per week, which-includes training,

active squad service, and organizational-meetingsof the squads.

The consultants then begana review of equipment~ and facilities.
