~ TUESDAY. MAY 8, 1990 <br />Upon motion, duly seconded~=~!'and~'!.by unanimous vote, Council <br />tentatively approved $2,500 for the FY1990-91 budget request for <br />Citizens'Against Family Violence (which had requested $3,500). The <br />organization's FY1989-90 budget from the City was $2,000. Ms. Lynn <br />Wehlau', Executive Director of the Agency, was present to make the <br />request. <br /> <br />Council next heard a budget request from the Adult Day Care Center, <br />represented by Ms. Betsy Maskins. Ms. Maskins stated that the <br />Center had opened on April 1, 1990 and that it had qualified for <br />taX-exempt-status.-Ms. Maskins stressed the need for support from <br />the~City,-mentioning that the Center was only able to budget $6,000 <br />for scholarships to fund the needs of those individuals.who have <br />difficulty in meeting the daily fee ($20 per day). Ms. Maskins <br />stated that'the Center is requesting $15,000 from the City-- $5,000 <br />for-operations ~and $10,000 for scholarships. In response to a <br />question by CouncilmanGroden, Ms. Haskinslstated that the Center <br />was~servicing five individualsat the current time. Ms. Maskins <br />said that she felt that this was a good~beginning.~ The Center is <br />licensed to serve 25 individuals. Also in response to a question <br />by. Councilman Groden, Ms. AliceCuller reported that no Blacks were <br />currently being served by the Center. Councilman Cole expressed <br />concern over state regulations which affect the Center, especially <br />as they concern the limitations.on its licensed capacity.
