TUESDAY. MAY 8, 1990 <br /> <br /> Councilman MCClain suggested that the appropriation for"S18,900 for <br /> uniforms for additional personnel be omitted from the budget. Mr. <br /> Brown suggested that a lesser amount be appropriated with the <br /> employee picking up a portion of the cost. Councilman McClain <br /> moved that the item be deleted, with the understanding that Mr. <br /> Brown could approach Council with another proposal regarding shared <br /> <br /> costs at some future time. This motion was seconded and adopted <br /> by unanimous vote. ~' <br /> <br /> Councilman McClain, referring to a report by the Director of <br /> Finance regarding the computer upgrade, moved that'the $50,000 for <br /> this item be eliminated from the budget. Mr. McClain'stated that <br /> he "would' prefersthat a more in-depth study be .conducted of the <br /> computer system prior to approving the expenditure~ This motion <br /> <br /> was seconded by Councilman Groden. Mr. Brown expressed support of <br /> ~he proposal submitted by Mr. Fitts. Mr. Fitts, stating that he <br /> felt that he had as much experience in the field as any consultant, <br /> also stated that he stood behind his recommendations. This was <br /> followed by a lengthy discussion between Mr. Fitts and various <br /> Councilmen with the objective of explaining the purpose of this <br /> plan. Following a proposal by Mayor Oakes, Mr. Brown stated that <br /> if Council'would appropriate the $50,000, the Administration would <br /> <br />'return to Council with a report prior to actually expending the <br /> money. The"motion to eliminate the $50,000 and'the second to the <br /> <br /> motion were then withdrawn. .. ~- <br /> <br /> <br />
