MONDAY, APRIL 30, 1990 <br />Upon!motion,-duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council granted <br />,tentative approval to the budget request of the Clerk of the <br />Circuit Court. .- Mr. Ashby Pritchett was present to make the <br />request. <br /> <br />Mr.~Brownpresented Council with a report from the Director of <br />Finance regarding.~he computer system (such report had been <br />requested by Council at an earlier meeting). <br /> <br />Vice-MayorWitliams asked Chief of Police Terry Roop what authority <br />the local Police Department has within the Rivermont Apartments. <br />Chief Roop stated that violations of the law which are reported <br />from Rivermont are investigated and that the area is patrolled. <br />HoWever, difficulties arise when violations are reported, but when <br />police arrive on the scene they find no one willing to make a <br />statement to the police stating that they had witnessed the <br />violations. Councilman McClain asked the CityManager to look into <br />the possibility of deputizing the resident manager of the complex <br />Iso that he would have some authority to make arrests. ~ <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes questioned the budgeted. increase~-~in salaries for <br />several departments, noting that while..the overall increase is <br />supposed to be close to 6% (5% cost-of-living and .89% in pay plan <br />costs),. several..divisions have budgeted increases of greater than <br />6%. City Managerl Brown and Director=of=Finance, Fitts explained <br />that the salary increases would differ across departments, <br /> <br /> <br />
