Regarding computer-related expenditures, Mr. Lamm <br /> explained that the budget contained funds for the addition of a <br /> computer lab for the high school, along with hardwareand software <br /> expenditures for the new position of ComputerCoordinator.= Also, <br /> the,School-System's administrative management area is included in <br /> the~improvements included in the City's proposed computer upgrade. <br /> Mayor. Oakes' stated that lhe felt that the ~City,s schools. have <br /> traditionally placed emphasis on basiccourses, but that in.today's <br /> business~world, the knowledge of computer operation is essential. <br /> FolloWing a .question by Councilman McClain, Mr.~, Lamm stated that <br /> the .budget !included 2 additional classroom teachers, 1 Computer <br /> Coordinator, 1 Special Services employee, and.l.5 Federal Teachers <br /> &Counselors,. for atotal of 5.5 additional employees. IFollowing <br /> a~question byl Councilman Cole, Ms.-Nancy Brammer,-Assistant <br /> Superintendent for Instruction, stated that the school had a grant <br /> for $16,000 for a drug-free school program~ Mr. Cole requested <br /> that the School System consider. including a supplementary item in <br /> the budget detailing,the identifiable costs of the drug problem for <br /> the Schools. =Following a question by Mayor Oakes, Mr. Lammstated <br /> that' the ~School-.-System~ has no. drug testing policy for its <br /> employees.,~Mayor Oakes.requested that-Mr. Lamm.review the 'drug- <br /> .free workplace policy which was adopted by Council-for City <br /> <br /> <br />
