~ESDAY, MARCH 27, 1990

Upon motion, duly seconded, and by unanimous vote, Council approved the
following resolution requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation to

revise the City's street lane mileage eligible for maintenance payments:

WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville is entitled to receive assistance
payments for the maintenance of eligible streets under the State
Functional Classification System as set forth in Section 33.1-41.1 of
the State Code; and

WHEREAS, in accordance with Virginia Department of Transportation
procedures for adding streets eligible for maintenance payments under
the State Functional Classification System as set forth in Section
33.1-41.1 of the Code, it is necessary that a request by Council
resolution be made in order for the Department to consider said
revisions; now therefore:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,
in regular session assembled this 27th day of March, 1990, that it
hereby requests the Virginia Department of Transportation to add as
eligible mileage, for Collector/Local street maintenance payments, a
net of 0.52 lane miles as shown on attached U-1 Form, all streets
being located in and maintained by the City of Martinsville.

Council took no action on a request by CONTACT Martinsville-Henry County, Inc.,
for funding of 25% of the cost of a "Teen Line Crisis Telephone Hotline". City
Manager Brown stated that it was his feeling that Council should not take
action on this matter until it had received a recommendation from the Drug
Committee. Ms. Sharon George, stating that she was representing a "group" in
the community that is in support of the Teen Line, spoke in favor of the City
funding a share of the project. Councilman Cole suggested that Ms. George
invite Ms. Renda Brown and Mr. Gabe Cazell (who were not present) to meet with
the Committee on Community Education of the Drug Task Force in order to review
the proposed program in connection with the Committee's larger community-wide
strategies for.fighting the drug problem. Council concurred with this by
unanimous consent.
