282 <br /> <br />'=" TUESDAY',:MARCH 13, 1990. <br /> <br />· Council heard a request'by Erwin Katz .regarding the need for paid and trained <br /> personnel 'for rescue.squads~' Ms. Lucy Noland stated she had served :as a <br /> paramedicin West Virginia. Under their schedule, paramedics-stayed. on the <br /> premiseson 24-hour shifts with three EMT's rotating 8-hour shifts during that <br /> period. EMT's are not qualified to use IV's andlife-support equipment, only <br /> paramedics are qualified to do that, Rev. Albert Robertson noted that it would <br /> cost money to correct our present situation, but if not corrected, it would <br /> cost lives. City Manager Brown stated that the governing body has the respon- <br /> <br /> 'sibility'to see. that the community. is protected by some typeof rescue service. <br /> He'stated that the City and Henry County are studying this situation now and <br /> will'be reporting to Council m~d the Board of Supervisors soon regarding the <br /> findings of the study. <br /> <br /> Upon-motion, duly seconded and unanimous-vote, Council approved'the following <br /> nominations.to be submitted to the Virginia Municipal League for Policy <br /> Committees: Community m~d Economic Development - George W. Brown; Effective <br /> Government - Clyde L. Willisms; Environmental Quality - Alfred T, Groden; <br /> Public Safety -Terry L. Roop; and Transportation - Leon E. Towarnicki.. Mayor <br /> 0akes also asked that City Manager Brown be nominated for membership on the <br /> Lea~ue's Legislative Committee. <br /> <br /> Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimous vote, Council approved the filing of a <br /> grant application by the Police Department to the Virginia Departmentof Crimi- <br /> nal Justice Services to provide for a new drug enForcement program. It was <br /> noted by Council that this did not guarm~tee approvalof this program in the <br /> FY90-91 Budget. City Manager Brown stated that this would be a new drug en- <br /> forcement program in the Police Department's budget for FYgO-91 which will <br /> <br /> <br />
