TUESDAY, JANUARY 23, 1990 <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of a letter from the Virginia Auditor of Public <br />Accounts stating that the City's audit for FY88-89, as prepared by Ford, Hogg& <br />Cobbe, CPA's, was in accordance with the specifications of the State Auditor <br />and, therefore, was accepted by the State Auditor. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried,'Council adopted a resolu- <br />tion requesting the City School Board to consider instructing the Superinten- <br />dent of City Schools to meet with the Henry County School officials to examine <br />the feasibilityof combining City and County resources for special education <br />programs and summer school in an effort to reduce operating'costs. It was <br />noted that the Henry County Board of Supervisors had adopted a similar reso- <br />lution requesting their School Board to do the same. <br /> <br />The following comments were made by Councilman Cole: (1) Requested a report at <br />the next Council Meeting on the Adkins Townhouse Project and the alledged <br />drainage situation; (2) Requested a report on street construction (referring to <br />a recent newspaper article); and (3) Asked Vice-Mayor Williams who was paying <br />for the "weekend retreat" being conducted by the Central Piedmont Employment <br />Consortium--to which Vice-Mayor Williams said he would let him know. <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor Williams noted that he had received a Call from someone requesting <br />assistance from the Council regarding the closing of a business in the County. <br />City Manager Brown said he had received a similar call and had directed them to <br />Mr. Joe Gero, Executive Director of the Martinsville-Henry County Economic <br />Development Corporation. <br /> <br /> <br />
