158

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 1989

proposed Land Use Plan. to designate the area east of Brookdale Street, from the
existing industrial land use line south of Fisher Street to Independent Drive
(for a depth of approximately 350 feet) from Medium Density Residential to
Commercial.

Upon motion by Vice-Mayor Williams, seconded by Councilman Groden, and by
unanimous approval of Council, the Special Use Permit for Ruddco, Inc. was
modified to allow for the construction of a 6,720 square foot drug store and an
additional 1,400 square feet of shop space for the shopping center (anchored by
Harris-Teeter) located off of Brookdale Street near its intersection with
Spruce Street. It was noted by City Manager Brown that the City still owns a
lot with an old house adjacent to this property that was purchased as a future
Fire Station site noting that the City should continue ownership of this
property at this time even though Harris-Teeter expressed an interest in
purchasing it. Mr. K. Lee White of Ruddco was present and gave a brief review
of the shopping center plans stating that an access (sidewalk) has been
provided to the shopping center complex from Spruce Village and Spruce Street.
He indicated that the target date for opening is March or April, 1990.

Upon motion by Councilman Cole, seconded by Vice-Mayor Williams, and by
unanimous approval of Council, Ordinance No. 89-13 amending the City Code,
Chapter 12, Motor Vehicles and Traffic, Article VI, State Regulations for Motor
Vehicle Operation, Section 12-140, Adoption of amendments and additions to
motor vehicle laws by reference, was adopted on second reading.
