TUESDAY, JUNE 13, 1989 <br /> <br />comments thereon not only by Mrs. Penn but also by The Honorable J. Frank <br />Greenwalt, Judge of the City's General District Court, and by The Honorable <br />Junius P. Warren, Judge of the City's J&DR Court, and with a request that City <br />Manager Brown study and report on the cost of providing a relocated office for <br />Probation Officer W. 'S. ("Dink") Gardner., Council unanimously appropriated <br />(from General Fund surplus) the sum of $4,150.00 for the following General <br />District Courtroom security measures: <br /> <br /> A. $3,000.00 for a metal detector; <br /> <br /> B. $50.00 for a "No Admittance, Authorized Personnel Only" <br /> sign; <br /> <br /> C. $100.00 for installation of telephone at the Judge's bench; <br /> <br /> D. $500.00 for installation of an "Emergency Only" doorway <br /> between the General District Court Clerk's office and the <br /> office area of the Commissioner of the Revenue; and <br /> <br /> E. $500.00 for installation of a teller's window at the public <br /> counter in the General District Court Clerk's office. <br /> <br />Mr. Ronald M. Stone, Jr., Chairman of the City's Commercial Development <br />Commission, appeared before Council and presented the Commission's Status <br />Report for fiscal 1988-89, which included a summary of the Commission's past <br />efforts and accomplishments as well as a summary of its current efforts and <br />accomplishments. In an ensuing discussion of this report and the Commission's <br />role alongside efforts of other local development agencies, Mr. Stone indicated <br />that efforts are being directed toward inter-relating the City's downtown <br />business district with the new Liberty Fair Mall and the Patrick Henry Mall. <br /> <br />Former Mayor Barry A. Greene, as Chairman of the City's Ad-Hoc Steering <br />Committee on Drugs (i.e., Drug Abuse in Martinsville), appeared before Council <br />and presented a seventeen-page report from the Committee in which was outlined <br /> <br /> <br />
