TUESDAY, JUNE 13, 1989 A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with MayorL. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, June 13, 1989, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of Council were present, viz.,.L.D.' Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Willjams, Vice-Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr.; ;Llfred T. Groden; and Allan McClain. After invocation, followed by Mayor Oakes'cordial welcome to visitors present, Council unanimouslyapproved--as recorded--the minutes of its special meeting held May 18, 1989, and of its regular meeting held May 23, 1989. In accordance with the requirements of Section 22.1-29.1 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended) and pursuant to duly-published notice, Council. conducted a public hearing for the purposeof receiving views of citizens of the City of Martinsville for or on behalf of any nominee or applicant for membership on the Martinsville City School Board for a three-year term beginning July 1, 1989, to succeed Mrs. Catherine Stone, who has requested that she not be considered for reappointment at the expiration of her present School Board term on June 30, 1989. The following candidates/applicants, having in advance submitted their resumes, appeared before Council and, after publicly stating their qualifications as well as their desires to serve the City as a member of the City School Board, were individually interviewed by Council in an Executive Session duly convened for that purpose in accordance with subsection A. 1 of Section 2.1-344 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), by a recorded and unanimous vote: 1. Mr. Dale Eugene Hamann, 903 Ainsley Street; 2. Mrs. Judith K. Matthews, 211 Arrowhead Trail (whose candidacy was endorsed by former Mayor Barry A. Greene, present at this meeting to present a report and recommendations from the Ad Hoc Steering Committee on D~ugs, of which Mr. Greene is Chairman);
