TUESDAY, JUNE 13, 1989 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with MayorL. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, June 13, 1989, in <br />the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of Council <br /> <br />were present, viz.,.L.D.' Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Willjams, Vice-Mayor; William <br /> <br />C. Cole, Jr.; ;Llfred T. Groden; and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />After invocation, followed by Mayor Oakes'cordial welcome to visitors present, <br />Council unanimouslyapproved--as recorded--the minutes of its special meeting <br />held May 18, 1989, and of its regular meeting held May 23, 1989. <br /> <br />In accordance with the requirements of Section 22.1-29.1 of the CODE OF <br />VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended) and pursuant to duly-published notice, Council. <br />conducted a public hearing for the purposeof receiving views of citizens of <br />the City of Martinsville for or on behalf of any nominee or applicant for <br />membership on the Martinsville City School Board for a three-year term <br />beginning July 1, 1989, to succeed Mrs. Catherine Stone, who has requested that <br />she not be considered for reappointment at the expiration of her present School <br />Board term on June 30, 1989. The following candidates/applicants, having in <br />advance submitted their resumes, appeared before Council and, after publicly <br />stating their qualifications as well as their desires to serve the City as a <br />member of the City School Board, were individually interviewed by Council in an <br />Executive Session duly convened for that purpose in accordance with subsection <br />A. 1 of Section 2.1-344 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), by a <br />recorded and unanimous vote: <br /> <br /> 1. Mr. Dale Eugene Hamann, 903 Ainsley Street; <br /> <br /> 2. Mrs. Judith K. Matthews, 211 Arrowhead Trail (whose candidacy <br /> was endorsed by former Mayor Barry A. Greene, present at this <br /> meeting to present a report and recommendations from the Ad <br /> Hoc Steering Committee on D~ugs, of which Mr. Greene is <br /> Chairman); <br /> <br /> <br />
