TUESDAY, MAY 9, 1989 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,. <br />Virginia, with Mayor'L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, May 9, 1989, in <br />the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. With the exception of <br />Councilman. Allan McClain, who was away from the City, all members of Council <br />were present, viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Willjams, Vice-Mayor; William <br />C. Cole, Jr.; and Alfred T. Groden. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome to visitors <br />present, Council recognized--and expressed appreciation to--the members of the <br />City's Board of Appeals for their continuing (but often un-noticed) service to <br />the City. Membership of this Board currently consists of Messrs. Jackson C. <br />Dodge (Chairman), Rayford B. Smith (Vice-Chairman), Stafford G. Whittle, III <br />(Secretary), J. A. Gustin, and Richard A. Prillaman. Messrs. Smith, Whittle, <br />and Prillaman were present for this recognition. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved--as <br />recorded--the minutes of its special meeting held April 20, 1989, and of its <br /> <br />regular meeting held April 25, 1989. <br /> <br />Ms. Brenda DePetries,'ISales Manager for Adelphia Cable Communications' <br />Martinsville Multi-Channel Cablevision Division, appeared before Council and <br />announced that the local cablevision channel will televise a documentary <br />entitled, "How To Raise A Drug-Free Child", on Monday, May 15, 1989, beginning <br />at 10:00 P.M. In connection therewith, Mayor Oakes proclaimed said May 15th as <br />"Drug-Free Child Day". <br /> <br /> <br />
