TUESDAY, APRIL 25, 1989 <br /> <br />Manager recommended that Council adopt the proposed policy, to be in force on a <br />trial basis for a period of one year, at the end of which period of time <br />Council may wish to continue or modify the policy, After raising some <br />questions pertaining to the maximum length such lines will be extended as well <br />as funding such projects, and after commending the City Manager for developing <br />the proposed policy, Councilman McClain offered the motion that CoUncil adopt <br />the policy for a one-year trial period, subject to receipt of answers to Mr. <br />McClain's foregoing questions, and subject--as recommended by Vice-Mayor <br />Williams--to the policy being "spelled out" and to its being put into writing <br />for confirmation by Council. Commending Council for its action on this matter <br />was Mr. Allen Adams, of HABCO Properties, present at this meeting. <br /> <br />Council referred to City Manager Brown a petition filed by a number of citizens <br />with the Virginia Department of Transportation, seeking additional ingress/ <br />egress between a section of replaced Spruce Street and the recently-relocated/ <br />reconstructed Spruce Street, with the request that Mr. Brown examine the <br />situation and report his findings thereon to Council at its next regular <br />meeting. <br /> <br />Citing a communication received from Mr. Erwin Katz, of 1038 Oak Street, who <br />was recently involved in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Market <br />and Bridge Streets, which is one of several intersections along Market Street <br />for which no traffic signals were provided by the State Department of <br />Transportation when constructing Market Street (formerly known as Mulberry Road <br />Extension), Councilman Cole posed the question, "Has the State taken the <br />position that the State does not have money for traffic signals?", whereas <br />Mayor Oakes expressed.disappointment and concern that traffic signals were not <br />provided for the project, whose allocation--City Manager Brown pointed out--has <br /> <br /> <br />
