TUESDAY, APRIL 25, 1989 <br /> <br />agency's present 36-vehicle fleet before he can consider acting upon the <br />agency's request. Councilman McClain, commenting on the budget requests of the <br />various constitutional officers, on which, it is believed, the State <br />Compensation Board is yet to act, asked City Manager Brown to inform the <br />Council in writing as to the reason(s) for the increase in the City's net'local <br />cost for the projected operation of the City Sheriff's department 1989-90. <br /> <br />By motion and second, Council unanimously authorized City Manager Brown, <br />through the following adopted resolution, to execute (on behalf of the City) a <br />Memorandum of Agreement with the State Department of Education, to permit the <br />Martinsville City School System, as requested by its Board to participate in <br />the Governor's Educational Technology Initiative Procurement and Financing <br />Program through which the local school system is eligible for approximately <br />$51,046.63 in subsidized technological (data processing or computer) equipment: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville City Council recognizes the need to <br />expand learning experiences now available through technology to <br />students in the Martinsville City School Division; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville City School Board is eligible for <br />approximately $51,046.63 in subsidized technological equipment <br />through the Governor's Educational Technology Initiative <br />Procurement and Financing Program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Governor's Educational Technology Initiative <br />Procurement and Financing Program provides a vehicle for the <br />purchase and financing of microcomputers, satellite and associated <br />equipment at a substantial savings to participating localities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville City School Board has requested the <br />approval of the Martinsville City Council to participate in this <br />program; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session assembled on April 25, 1989, that it <br />does hereby authorize the City Manager to sign the Memorandum of <br />Agreement between the City and the Department of Education <br />authorizing participation in the Governor's Educational Technology <br /> <br /> <br />
