· ~ WEDNESDAY, APRIL .12, 1989 <br /> <br />department budget referred to or questioned were the restructuring of the <br />Finance Department personnel for budgetary purposes, the upgrading in salary <br />recommended for.lthe department's Computer Programmer, and maintenance costs for <br />data processing equipment. <br /> <br />After discussing with Police Chief Terry L. Roop certain budgetary requests <br />made for the Police Department for i989-90~ including some change in plans to <br />transfer the City's Parking Attendant Officer to the forthcoming E-911 <br />Emergency Headquarters, motor vehicle replacements, drug enforcement, and <br />assault vests proposed to equip three officers, Council tentatively approved <br />this department's 1989-90 budget requests. <br /> <br />Council also reviewed the Fire Department's proposed budget, which Council <br />tentatively approved, although Councilman McClain suggested that the amount for <br />physical examinations be reduced until better information is provided and that <br />the use of fire-retardant uniforms be phased in over a period of time. <br /> <br />Council also reviewed the budget requests of the Department of Parks & <br />Recreation, with particular emphasis on the upkeep/repair of tennis courts <br />located at Martinsville Senior High School. <br /> <br />In preparing for its special work-session scheduled for Friday, April 14, 1989, <br />beginning at 2:00 P.M. with the City School Board, Council directed that, while <br />any interested citizen may attend, consideration and presentation be limited to <br />comment and inquiry by Council and by School Board members. Council also <br />directed that the special April 14th session begin at 1:00 P.M., in order to <br />expedite the budget consideration processes. Council agreed, too, that one <br /> <br /> <br />
