,TUESD~Y, JUNE 11. 1991 <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor Groden then declared the public hearing clOsed~. ~ .~veral <br />Councilmen commended the individuals who have shown interest in being <br /> <br />appointed· to the School Board and commented on the difficulty in choosing two <br />persons from among so many qualified applicants. <br /> <br />In accordance with Section 2.1-344(A) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as <br />amended), and upon motion, duly seconded and carried by a unanimous recorded <br />vote, Council convened into Executive Session for the purpose of interviewing <br />candidates for the School Board, as authorized by Subsection 1 of Section <br />2.1-344(A). During the Executive Session, Council conducted individual <br />interviews wit~ the following candidates for the School Board: James Hi <br />Johnson, Jr., Robert Howard Carrington, Rebecca P. Farrar, Don Kerr, John M. <br />Christian, Dennis L. Wilson, Diane L. Ennis, Dr. James Peyton Moore, Jr., and <br />Rev. William A. Shackleford, Sr. At the conclusion of this Executive <br />Session, Council reconvened into regular session, wherein, by a recorded <br />vote, each member of Council certified that (1) only public business matters <br />exempted from open meeting requirements were discussed in said Executive <br />Session, and (2) only those business matters identified in the motion <br />convening the Executive Session were· heard, discussed or considered during <br />said session. <br /> <br />Council took no action on this matter, as according to State law, at least <br />seven days must elapse between the time Council conducts the public hearing <br />and makes the actual appointments to the School Board. <br /> <br />Council conducted a public hearing on an Ordinance (No. 91-8) authorizing the <br /> <br />issuance and sale. of School Bonds of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br /> <br />the maximum amount of $585,000. There being no public comment, Vice-Mayor <br />Groden declared the public hearing closed° Upon motion, duly seconded and by <br /> <br /> <br />
