t.56 ]'I=~TUESDAY, JUNE 11,1991 A-regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of=~MartinsvitIe, Virginia, with Vice-Mayor Alfred T. Groden presiding, was held Tuesday, June 11, 1991 in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 9:00 A.M. The following members of Council were present: Alfred T. Groden, Vice-Mayor; George' B.. Adams, Jr.; L.D. Oakes; and Clyde L. Williams. Absent was Mayor Allan McClain who was away from the City. After the invocation, followed by Vice-Mayor Groden's cordial welcome to visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its May 28, 1991 meeting as circulated. Under Business From the Floor, Mrs. Estelle B. Gilbert, 330 Greyson Street, appeared to express concern regarding the possible use of a building at the southeast corner of the intersection of Clearview Drive and Liberty Street. City Manager Brown stated that the building is located in the C-3 Commercial Zone, and therefore the building could be used for all permissible-uses in the C-3 Zone. Mr. Brown reported that the City staff was monitoring the use of this-building to ensure that all City ordinances were being adhered to. Councilman Oakes stated that he had received a number of calls from citizens concerned with this issue. Council conducted a public hearing to consider applications for membership on ~the E.ity's School Board for two vacancies which will occur June 30, 1991. Mr. Doug Ingram appeared and presented Council with a petition cont~ining ',several hundred" signatures from individuals who favored the appointment of Joseph Finley and Agnes Mobile Scott Hairston to the School Board. The petition presented to Council read as follows: "The signatures listed below represent residents of the City of Martinsville who want you to nominate Mr. Joseph Finley and Mrs. Agnes Mobile Hairston for the two upcoming vacant
