t.56 <br /> <br />]'I=~TUESDAY, JUNE 11,1991 <br /> <br /> A-regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of=~MartinsvitIe, <br /> Virginia, with Vice-Mayor Alfred T. Groden presiding, was held Tuesday, June <br /> 11, 1991 in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 9:00 A.M. The <br /> following members of Council were present: Alfred T. Groden, Vice-Mayor; <br /> George' B.. Adams, Jr.; L.D. Oakes; and Clyde L. Williams. Absent was Mayor <br /> Allan McClain who was away from the City. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Vice-Mayor Groden's cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its May 28, 1991 meeting as <br />circulated. <br /> <br />Under Business From the Floor, Mrs. Estelle B. Gilbert, 330 Greyson Street, <br />appeared to express concern regarding the possible use of a building at the <br />southeast corner of the intersection of Clearview Drive and Liberty Street. <br />City Manager Brown stated that the building is located in the C-3 Commercial <br />Zone, and therefore the building could be used for all permissible-uses in <br />the C-3 Zone. Mr. Brown reported that the City staff was monitoring the use <br />of this-building to ensure that all City ordinances were being adhered to. <br />Councilman Oakes stated that he had received a number of calls from citizens <br />concerned with this issue. <br /> <br /> Council conducted a public hearing to consider applications for membership on <br />~the E.ity's School Board for two vacancies which will occur June 30, 1991. <br /> <br /> Mr. Doug Ingram appeared and presented Council with a petition cont~ining <br /> ',several hundred" signatures from individuals who favored the appointment of <br /> Joseph Finley and Agnes Mobile Scott Hairston to the School Board. The <br /> petition presented to Council read as follows: "The signatures listed below <br /> represent residents of the City of Martinsville who want you to nominate Mr. <br /> Joseph Finley and Mrs. Agnes Mobile Hairston for the two upcoming vacant <br /> <br /> <br />
