TUESDAY. APRIL 23, 1991 <br />Assembly,~ both the!~ Charter and Section '15.1-901 were amended to allow-City <br />ordinance violations to completel. y parallel State law. Therefore, this <br />Ordinance will increase the fine for a Class 1 misdemeanor from $1,000 to <br /> <br />$2,500. Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council adopted <br /> <br />the Ordinance on first reading. <br /> <br />..Council considered adoption, on first reading, of Ordinance No. 91-3 amending <br /> Sectional3-5. Obstructing ~Justice, of Chapter 13 Offenses-Miscellaneous, of <br /> the City Code. Mr. Smith explained that this section of the City Code has <br /> been made obsol-ete by amendments to the State Code. The proposed ordinance <br /> reflects .the new addition adopted for Section 18.2-460 of the-State Code. <br /> Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council adopted the <br /> Ordinance on first reading. <br /> <br /> Council considered adoption, on second reading, of Ordinance No. ~- 91-4 <br /> amending Ordinance No. 88-1 regarding annual compensation for-members of <br /> Council. Councilman Adams noted that the reduction in salaries for the Mayor <br /> and members of Council as proposed in the Ordinance would be effective for <br /> Fiscal Year 1991-92 only. Mayor McClain noted that the Ordinance would <br /> become effective 10 days after adoption. Upon motion, duly seconded and by <br /> unanimous vote, Council adopted the following Ordinance No. 91-4: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 14.1-47.2, of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as <br />amended), authorizes this Council, notwithstanding any contrary <br />provision of law, general or special, to set annual salaries by <br />ordinance for the Mayor and each member of Council not to. exceed <br />$7,000 for the Mayor and $6,500 for Councilmen per year, and this <br />Council is desirous of exercising this authority; now, therefore, <br /> <br />· BE - IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, assembled this 23rd day of April, 1991, that the annual <br />salaries of the Mayor and each member of Council shall be-as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Mayor $160 for each regular or special meeting <br /> attended, however not to exceed $4,800 $7.000 <br /> annually; <br /> <br /> <br />
