TUESDAY, MARCH 12,1991 · <br />was operating~with two officers assigned to one vehicle in order to better <br />deal with the large, often hostile, crowds which are sometimes ~seen, <br />especially in the warmer months. Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous <br />vote, Council endorsed the Police Department's grant application. <br /> <br />Council considered a request from the Virginia Municipal League for- <br />nominations for appointments to the League's policy committees. Upon motion, <br />dulysec0nded and by unanimous vote, Council renominated Vice-Mayor Groden to <br />the Environmental Quality Committee, Councilman Williams to the Effective <br />Government Committee, Police Chief Roop to the Public Safety Committee, <br />Public Works Director Leon Towarnicki to the Transportation Committee and <br />City Manager Brown to the Community and Economic Development Committee. In <br />addition, CoUncil nominated Councilman Adams to the Education Policy <br />Committee ~ <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council set a public <br />hearing for March 26, 1991 on a proposal by the Planning Commission to amend <br />the City's Comprehensive Plan in order to change the name of Cross Street, <br />located along the.western. end of View and Eanes Streets, to Pineview Street. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged the 1990 Annual report of the Martinsville Fire <br />Department. Fire Chief W. Lewis Reeves was present to give the report, which <br />detailed the activities of the Department during 1990. Several members of <br />Council expressed appreciation to Chief Reeves for the job which is being <br />done by the Department. <br /> <br />CoU. ncil acknowledged the 1990 Annual report of the Martinsville Volunteer <br />Fire Company. Mr. Andy Dunford, who was present to give this report, noted <br />that the Company currently consists of 28 volunteers out of a possible roster <br /> <br /> <br />
