TUESDAY, JULY 28, 1992 <br /> <br />(7) the Gas Company's equipment in their neighborhood had not been <br />sufficiently secured. Mr. and Mrs. Raines spoke of some of the same <br />issues and asked that "speed bumps" be placed in the streets to deter <br />speeding. Council asked the City Manager to investigate these matters <br />and report back to Council and also to Mrs. Pinkard and Mr. and Mrs. <br />Raines. <br /> <br />Council listened to remarks from several citizens representing Sensible <br />Citizens Against Toxics (SCAT). Reverend William Barber of 413 Fayette <br />Street, Elder James R. Hagwood of Route 1, Box 286, Co-Chairmen of <br />SCATf Michele H. Smith of 749 Indian Trail, Thomas I. DeBusk, III of <br />217 Thomas Heights, Mary Eggleston Cahill of 902 B Street, Reverend <br />Jimmie Hawkins of 408 Second Street, Sue Harris Joyce of Fieldale, and <br />Reverend Malvestor Dixon of 622 Watt Street protested adamantly against <br />the temporary parking of trucks containing hazardous waste at the old <br />R. P. Thomas trucking terminal on Fayette Street. They were restating <br />their request that the property be rezoned, that the Zoning Ordinance <br />be amended to prohibit such temporary parking in residential areas, and <br />for an ordinance that would prohibit trucks hauling hazardous waste <br />from stopping anywhere in the City. Mayor McClain reminded the citi- <br />zens that there would be a public hearing by the Planning Commission on <br />a proposed amendment to the Zoning Ordinance on August 6, at which time <br />they would have an opportunity to express their concerns. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council adopted, on <br />second reading, Ordinance No. 92-12 imposing a $2.00 fee on all <br />criminal, civil and traffic cases in the City's Circuit and General <br />District Courts, to be effective August 1, 1992.
