123 <br /> WEDNESDAY, JULY 1, 1992 <br />Pursuant to the requirements of Sections 5 and 7 of Chapter 2 of the <br />Charter of the City of Martinsville, a special meeting of the Council <br />of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, was held Wednesday, July 1, <br />1992, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 9:00 A.M., for <br />the purpose of having newly-elected members of Council (L. D. Oakes, <br />Clyde L. Williams, and Steve M. Draper, who were elected for four-year <br />terms beginning July 1, 1992 to membership on the Council at the <br />councilmanic election held May 5, 1992) subscribe to the required oaths <br />of office, and for the purpose of electing a Mayor and a Vice-Mayor for <br />two-year terms beginning July 1, 1992. All members of Council were <br />present: George B. Adams, Jr., Steve M. Draper, Allan McClain, L. D. <br />Oakes, and Clyde L. Williams. Presiding at this meeting and <br />administering the required oaths of office was Mr. Ashby R. Pritchett, <br />Clerk of Martinsville City Circuit Court. <br /> <br />After the invocation by Reverend Chevis F. Horne, Mr. Pritchett <br />administered oaths of office, individually, to Councilmen Oakes, <br />Williams, and Draper. <br /> <br />Councilman Adams nominated Allan McClain for the position of Mayor. <br />This nomination was seconded by Councilman Draper and carried by a <br />unanimous vote. Mr. Pritchett then administered the oath of office to <br />Mayor McClain. <br /> <br />Councilman Oakes nominated George B. Adams, Jr. for the position of <br />Vice-Mayor. This nomination was seconded by Councilman Williams and <br />carried by a unanimous vote. Mr. Pritchett then administered the oath <br />of office to Vice-Mayor Adams. <br /> <br /> <br />
