TUESDAY, MAY 12, 1992 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor Allan McClain presiding, was held <br />Tuesday, May 12, 1992, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at <br />9:30 A.M. All members of Council were present: Allan McClain, Mayor; <br />Alfred T. Groden, Vice-Mayor; George B. Adams, Jr.; L. D. Oakes; and <br />Clyde Lo Williams. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor McClain's cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its April 28, 1992 <br />meeting as circulated. <br /> <br />Under Business from the Floor, Mrs. Carrie Dandridge, 302 Sellers <br />Street, appeared to ask that a "No Trucks" sign currently on Sellers <br />Street be moved to another location and that a "Slow Children Playing" <br />sign be placed at the end of Lavinder Street'entering Salem Street. <br />Mayor McClain referred this matter to City Manager Earl B. Reynolds, <br />Jr. for review. <br /> <br />A retirement stipend was presented to Doris Hill, Water Resources <br />Department, 19 years service (who was not present). <br /> <br />Service awards were presented to a number of City Employees who reached <br />5-year increments of service to the City during 1991. A complete list <br />of those receiving awards is attached to these minutes as Appendix A. <br /> <br />Council continued a public hearing on a request by L.E. "Mike" Lester <br />to abandon an unimproved, unnamed street space located on the east side <br />of Stephens Street. Mr. W.R. Broaddus, III, attorney for Mr. Lester, <br />was present to ask that the street be abandoned. Mr. Erwin Katz, 1040 <br /> <br /> <br />
