The regular

Martinsville,

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1992
semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of

Virginia, with Mayor McClain presiding, was held on

Tuesday, February 11, 1992, at 9:30 a.m., in the Council Chamber, City

Hall. All members of Council were present: Allan McClain, Mayor;
Alfred T. Groden, Vice-Mayor; George B. Adams, Jr.; L. D. Oakes, and

Clyde L. Williams.

After the invocation, followed by Mayor McClain's cordial welcome to
visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its meetings held
January 15, 16, 17, 27, 28, and 29, 1992, as circulated.

Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council deferred
action until the regular budget process for FY92-93 on a request by the
Martinsville-Henry County Rescue Squad Association for funding in the
FY92-93 Budget in the amount of $15,000 to help cover the purchase of
new equipment. Mr. Stuart Bowman, President of the Rescue Squad Asso-
ciation, spoke on behalf of this request, noting the need to replenish
on a continuing basis the vehicles used by the four area rescue squads.
The funds requested would be used to purchase one vehicle each year
which would be provided to one of the four rescue squads in the City
and County, thereby allowing each squad to receive'a new vehicle every
four years. It was noted that this would be an ongoing request from
the Rescue Association in additionto the regular request by the M-HC
Rescue Squad to the City for funding. Mr. Bowman noted that money
received-from the localities enabled the Association to receive State
funding through grants on a matching-fund basis. Acting City Manager
Lance Heater noted that the Association had requested $50,000 from
Henry County and the Board of Supervisors approved the request for
inclusion in the FY92-93 County Budget.
