TUESDAY, JANUARY 28, 1992

asking for financial assistance from Council for the new Budget year to
cover this expense. After much discussion of this matter, Council
asked the City Manager to research current laws that may be used to
control this problem or suggest laws that may be enacted by Council to
assist with this problem and report back to Council.

Upon motion, duly seconded, and unanimous vote, Council accepted
funding in the amount of $1,500 in Federal funding through t~e School
System and $2,500 from the Drug Task Force in support of the Police
Department's program (which will cost a total of $6,500) to develop
baseball-style cards featuring departmental employees along with a
safety slogan or anti-drug slogan. Chief of Police Terry L. Roop
explained the program and the hopeful benefit it will be. in educating
the public and especially students in the School System of what the
Police DepartmentJis doing for them. Chief Roop noted that there would
be 2,000 sets of 72 cards printed, 500 sets would be available for
$10.00 per set to card collectors and 1,500 sets would be distributed
free to children in the City. Chief Roop also noted that the Depart-
ment would not need an additional appropriation for this program, but
would be able to absorb it through the current budget.

Mayor McClain read a letter dated January 28, 1992, from Henry County
Administrator C. Lee Lintecum to Acting City Manager Lance G. Heater
which stated that the Henry County Board of Supervisors at their
meeting on January 27, 1992, had unanimously agreed to reaffirm their
commitment to a joint solid waste disposal facility with the City of
M~rtinsville, and the Board had also agreed to request a joint meeting
of both governing bodies at 4:00 ~.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 1992,
