MARCH 9, 1999 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THANKS TO <br />THE LESTER GROUP <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Lester Group is a major business and employer in the Martinsville-Henry County area, <br />offering employment, capital investment and other contributions to the improvement of economic <br />conditions in our area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The Lester Group has recently provided significant improvement to the City's curb appeal <br />by the demolition of the former Jobbers Plant No. 3 on Market Street, thereby enhancing community <br />safety and neighborhood revitalization; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this demolition constitutes community improvement by The Lester Group which will help <br />to bring more commerce, more jobs, and a better standard of living to our area; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session assembled <br />March 9, 1999, that it does hereby express its sincere appreciation for and recognition of The Lester <br />Group for its contribution in supporting economic growth in the City of Martinsville and Henry County. <br /> <br /> Council next considered a presentation by the Police Department for their 1998 Citizen of the <br />Year Award. Chief of Police David Edwards announced the name of the recipient, Mr. William R. <br />Jamison, a Criminal Justice Instructor at Patrick Henry Community College, and presented the award. He <br />then provided information on Mr. Jamison's background, and his contributions on behalf of his country <br />and community. Mr. Jamison then gave a brief statement in which he expressed his deep appreciation for <br />the award and his great respect for the officers of the City Police Department. Mayor Crabtree then <br />expressed Council's appreciation to Mr. Jamison for his contribution to improvement of the City's police <br /> <br />force. <br /> <br /> <br />
