TUESDAY, MARCH 9, 1999 <br />Accepted and appropriated $28,955 received from the State for the Persona! Property Tax <br />Relief Act into Revenue Account 01 -000500-230400wTreasurer, to be appropriated to <br />various line items as determined by the Finance Director in the General Fund for the <br />Treasurer's Office. <br /> <br />Accepted and appropriated $23,797 received from the State Compensation Board into <br />Revenue Account 01-000500-2307000--Clerk of Circuit Court, to be appropriated to <br />Account 01-210600-7002000--Office Equipment in the General Fund for upgrading the <br />Records Indexing System in the Circuit Court Clerk's Office. <br /> <br />Accepted and appropriated $4,752.06 received from the State Compensation Board into <br />Revenue Account 01-000500-2301000--Commonwealth's Attorney, to be appropriated to <br />01-220100-7007000wADP Equipment in the General Fund for purchase of computer/printer <br />equipment in the Commonwealth Attorney's Office. <br /> <br />Set a public hearing to be conducted jointly with the Martinsville Planning Commission on a <br />request submitted by R. C. Realty, Corporation to rezone the Patrick Henry Mall located at <br />730 East Church Street, from C-1 Commercial to C-3 Commercial. The hearing was set for <br />Council's meeting of March 23, 1999, at 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> Under items not on the agenda, Mayor Crabtree noted that the city of Abilene, Texas was currently <br />involved in requesting that the Federal government reconsider its prohibitions on the involvement of <br />municipal governments in the provision of telecommunications services. Council Member Haskell noted <br />that it would be a good idea to get copies of all legislation currently before the Governor for his executive <br />approval. Mayor Crabtree agreed, and suggested that Council should take positions on committee issues <br />under consideration. Mr. Reynolds stated his agreement, and noted his efforts to discover what had <br />occurred with regard to legislation related to return of lottery funds to localities. He stated that even the <br />most concerted efforts on his part, as well as those of the Executive Director of the Virginia Municipal <br />League and the City's Director of Finance had proven unsuccessful in this matter. Council Member <br />Dallas asked that attention be given to following the progress of legislation related to vicious dogs. <br /> <br /> Council next considered the need to meet in Executive Session.
