AGENDA <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />CITY OF MARTINSV1LLE, VIRGINIA <br /> <br />City Council Chamber - Municipal Building <br /> 7:00 P.M. - March 9, 1999 <br /> <br /> II. <br /> <br />HI. <br /> <br />IV. <br /> <br />VI. <br /> <br />Invocation - Mayor Mark A. Crabtree <br /> <br />I. Consider approval of minutes of City Council' s meetings of February 9 and 23, <br /> 1999. (See Enclosure #1-a and #l-b) <br /> <br />Business from the floor. <br /> <br />Consider adoption of a Resolution recognizing The Lester Group for its efforts in <br />community improvements, thereby enhancing economic development opportuni- <br />ties within the City. (See Enclosure #2) <br /> <br />COMMENTS: The Lester Group had the former Jobbers Plant No. 3 building <br />removed from their property on Market Street. We recommend that Council <br />adopt the Resolution as prepared for formal presentation to Mr. Brent Westwood <br />from The Lester Group. <br /> <br />Consider a presentation by the Police Department for the 1998 Citizen of the Year <br />Award. (See Enclosure #3) <br /> <br />COMMENTS: The recipient, William R. Jamison, a Criminal Justice Instructor <br />at Patrick Henry Community College will attend your meeting for this recognition <br />by Chief of Police David Edwards. <br /> <br />Conduct a public hearing on a request from Virginia Mirror Company, Inc., to <br />abandon that portion of South Moss Street which lies immediately between the <br />property owned by the applicant and the property now owned by Norfolk & <br />Westem Railway. This property lies immediately southwest of the existing <br />crossing over the N & W right-of-way. (See Enclosure #4) <br /> <br />COMMENTS: We recommend that Council approve this request for street <br />abandonment as recommended by the Planning Commission. <br /> <br />Consider adoption of an Ordinance authorizing the issuance of up to $7,500,000 <br />principal amount of General Obligation Notes for Albert Harris School renova- <br />tions. (See Enclosure #5) . <br /> <br />COMMENTS: Representatives from Sands, Anderson, Marks & Miller, our <br />Bond Counsel, will be in attendance at your meeting. We recommend that <br />Council adopt this Ordinance as prepared by our Bond Counsel. <br /> <br /> <br />
