TUESDAY, JANUARY 14, 1992 <br />that property owners along that section of the street would not donate <br />the needed right-of-way to install the sidewalk, and, therefore, the <br />budgeted funds were used for something else. He further pointed out <br />that constructing the sidewalk across the road was considered, but was <br />financially prohibitive because of an embankment in that area. Mr. <br />Oakes requested that concerned citizens make an effort to encourage the <br />resistant property owners to donate the needed right-of-way. In <br />addition, he stated that he would meet with those interested in the <br />project, if they would call him when they were ready. <br /> <br />Mayor McClain suggested that Council would be interested in hearing, <br />from the citizens, comments on the solid waste matter. <br /> <br />Mr.. Grady Holley, 209 Greyson Street, suggested that the City continue <br />to investigate the possibility of developing its own "permitted" <br />landfill. He noted that he would rather pay a little more than pursue <br />a joint landfill with the County. <br /> <br />In response, Mayor McClain read from a letter which Council had <br />approved at its January 14, 1992 meeting for submission to the Chairman <br />of the Board of Supervisors asking for a commitment or restatement of <br />a previous commitment to pursue a joint solution to the solid waste <br />needs through (1) joint-privatization, or (2) a decision to pursue <br />jointly a public-sector solution. Mayor McClain indicated that, <br />hopefully, the County will notify the City of its intentions regarding <br />the 'joint landfill prior to Council's January 28 meeting, and, he <br /> <br /> <br />
